Frequently asked questions

What you ask us before we start

If what you're looking for isn't here, write to us and we'll answer it specifically for your case.

How we work

Who keeps the copyright to my book or my game?

The rights are always yours: the work belongs to the client. We don't buy the intellectual property, we don't appear as authors, and we don't ask for exclusivity over anything you write later.

What may exist, depending on the arrangement we agree on, is a right to collect a share of sales in our favor: a percentage of what the work sells, for a term that can be limited or indefinite depending on the agreement. That goes in writing and gets signed before we start, never after. On a flat-fee basis it doesn't exist: you pay for the work and everything that comes in is yours.

How do you charge: fixed quote, share of sales, or co-production?

Three ways, though in practice they're a spectrum: we adapt to each project instead of working from a rate card.

Flat fee: you pay for the work, we do it, and that's it. No commission, no share afterwards.

Revenue share: we charge less up front and in exchange collect a percentage of sales. The percentage isn't fixed: it depends on the project, on how much we take on, and on the risk we share.

Co-production: if the project convinces us, we put up the development money ourselves — for the book's editing, for the game's production — and we share the result.

Most projects land somewhere in between. Whatever we agree on is decided before we start and put in writing.

How do I send you my manuscript or my idea?

Send us whatever you have at info@vectorzeroent.com: a manuscript, a document with the idea, or just an email explaining what it's about. It doesn't need to be finished or polished.

We reply with specific questions and, if it's a fit, with a proposal and a price.

How do you protect my game idea from being copied?

With an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) we sign before you tell us anything. It's the first thing we do and it protects both sides: you, your idea; us, from being credited with something we were already working on independently.

Send us an email saying you have a game idea, no details, and we'll send you the document to sign.

How many revisions or changes are included in the price?

The ones we put in the contract. We don't promise unlimited revisions, because nobody honors that: we promise you'll know how many are included before you sign, and that no charge will appear for a fix you assumed was covered.

How many are needed depends on the job, so they're agreed project by project along with the price.

Publishing

How much does it cost to publish a book on Amazon?

There is no single rate: the cost of self-publishing depends on the manuscript's length and on the work it needs. A 400-page novel that arrives unedited is not the same as a 120-page essay that has already been through a copyeditor.

Ask us for a quote with the manuscript and the word count. On a flat-fee basis, we give you a fixed quote in writing before we start. With revenue share or co-production, the upfront cost drops or disappears and what gets agreed is the percentage.

How long does it take to publish a book on Amazon KDP?

Ten to fourteen weeks for a book of normal length, from the moment you hand in the manuscript until it is on sale. Editing is the part that takes longest; the cover and the interior layout run in parallel, and the Amazon KDP listing takes 24 to 72 hours from upload.

What does editing and publishing a book include?

Copyediting and proofreading, cover design for paperback and digital, interior layout for print on demand, ePub generation, Amazon KDP listing with both editions linked, and a written product page.

Can I hire just the cover design or just the interior layout?

Yes. You can hire each piece separately if you already have the rest covered. Tell us what you have done and what you're missing.

Websites and apps

Do you build custom websites without WordPress?

Yes: we code every custom website from scratch. We don't build on WordPress, on a framework, or on a purchased template: we write your website's code for your website.

That's more work on our side, but it means you don't drag around thousands of lines you never use, there are no plugins to update or break, you don't depend on a platform that can raise its fees or change the rules, and the site loads fast because it only carries what it needs.

Do you handle the hosting, the domain, and the website maintenance?

Yes, whatever it takes for the site to run without you having to wrestle with it: hosting management, domain registration, domain email accounts, admin panels so you can update content, contact and order forms, and ongoing maintenance afterwards if you want it.

If you already have a hosting or email provider, we work with the one you have.

Can I update the website myself without knowing how to code?

Yes. The websites we build come with an admin panel to change text, images, and content without touching code and without calling us.

Is the website code mine, or do I depend on you?

Yours. The code and the content belong to the client, and you can take them to another provider or maintain them on your own whenever you want. No lock-in, no dependency.

Is a custom website paid as a fixed quote or as a share of sales?

A fixed quote, normally: a commissioned website usually runs as flat-fee work, with a defined design and no cut afterwards. But it is not compulsory. If the project calls for something else, we find another arrangement; revenue-share setups make more sense when something sells on an ongoing basis, like a book or a game.

General

Where are you based?

In Madrid. We work remotely with clients across Spain, so you do not need to come and see us to get started: conversations, revisions, and delivery all run over email and video calls.

Do you work remotely with clients outside Spain?

Yes. The whole process can run over email and video calls. For books, Amazon KDP distributes to all its markets from a single listing.
